Federal Funding Opportunities: For biomedical researchers, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the primary and major funding source. However, the U.S. Federal Government has other agencies that fund grants and contracts. Although these agencies are not focused on biomedical research, often they will fund projects in your research area of interest. This means that you may want to expand your search for funding to include agencies other then the NIH. State Funding Opportunities: Most states also have funding for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs. To learn more go to:
Foundations & Professional Organizations: Don’t forget that there are many foundations and professional organizations that have robust funding initiatives and portfolios. To access the most appropriate funding initiative, it is best to pair your interest/expertise with that of the foundation and/or professional organization.
